In L'ultimo lupo (the last wolf), his
theme was ecological, using the realisation of his young protagonists that
hunting wolves is not the glamorous business they supposed it to be as a
vehicle for their developing maturity.
Enzo is a boy with no
interests and no desires, who thinks he has nothing to learn from his old
uncle. But two days with him completely change his prospects. Enzo knows he
will never again have the chance to see his uncle again, but he also knows that
this was the most important meeting of his life.
